Wisconsin tribe awaits decision on New York casino

The Stockbridge-Munsee Band of Mohican Indians is "literally that close" to receiving federal approval of its casino project in New York, President Robert Chicks said.

The Wisconsin tribe has finished its environmental assessment of the proposed casino in the Catskills. “I do believe that the Stockbridge Tribe in this project do have all its T’s crossed and the I’s dotted, and there is very little in the amount of actual work that needs to be completed for the approvals," Chicks said, The Mid-Hudson News Network reported.

Chicks doesn't think Interior Secretary Dirk Kempthorne will approved the assessment "tomorrow" but said a decision is "close." Kempthorne opposed off-reservation gaming when he was governor of Idaho.
