Mashantucket Tribe pushed to allow union at casino

Elected officials in Connecticut urged the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation to allow a union at its Foxwoods Resort Casino.

The United Auto Workers union is trying to organize about 4,000 dealers. Rep. Joe Courtney (D-Connecticut) and others say the employees have a right to form a union.

The tribe says any union efforts need to follow tribal law [Link]. But the National Labor Relations Board appears to be asserting jurisdiction on the reservation.

The NLRB recently held a hearing on complaints of intimidation and harassment by tribal and casino officials. An assistant regional director said a formal complaint might be issued against the tribe.
