Sen. Roberts asks BIA to review Quapaw casino

Sen. Pat Roberts (R-Kansas) is asking the Bureau of Indian Affairs to review the legality of the Quapaw Tribe's new casino.

The tribe broke ground on the $200 Downstream Casino Resort earlier this month. The facility sits on a a 235-acre site that spans Oklahoma, Kansas and Missouri.

Referring to a letter from officials in Cherokee County, Kansas, Roberts wants to know when the land for the casino was taken into trust and whether the tribe said it was going to be used for gaming. He also wants to know whether the site meets the definition of "Indian lands" under the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act [Letters].

According to the tribe, the casino and hotel portion of the resort will be located on the Oklahoma side. The parking lot is located in Kansas, with part of traffic entrance in Missouri.
