Pokagon Band withholds first casino payment

The Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians is withholding its first payment of casino revenues to local governments.

The tribe agreed to share 2 percent of net revenue from electronic games with local governments. The first payment covers the first two months of operation of the new Four Winds Casino.

But the tribe has concerns about the Local Revenue Sharing Board, which was set up to distribute the money. The tribe says the board may not be complying with the Class III gaming compact.

In addition to sharing 2 percent with local governments, the tribe shares 8 percent with the state. The 2 percent payment is estimated to be about $3.35 million per year.
