The Soboba Band of Luiseño Indians is planning a casino on hotel on 290 acres it wants to have placed in trust.

The tribe is proposing a 90,000-square-foot casino, a 300-room hotel a 2,200-space parking garage; restaurants, shops, a spa on the site. The land, which is located next to the tribe's golf course, also will be used for governmental services.

Notice of the proposed land-into-trust acquisition was published in the Federal Register last week. A public meeting will be held January 8. [Ed. Note: Not January 22 as noted before.]

On the day the notice was published, The Riverside Press-Enterprise ran a story in which council member Rose Salgado said she couldn't comment about the potential use of the land for gaming. She said a hotel would be constructed.
