Torres-Martinez Tribe to open casino in March

The Torres-Martinez Desert Cahuilla Tribe of California plans to open its first casino on March 15.

The 14,000-square-foot Red Earth Casino will feature mostly penny slots, the director of operations said. Combined with truck stop, travel center and a Subway sandwich shop, the tribe hopes to make the facility a friendly place for travelers.

The tribe plans to hire about 160 people for the operation. A second casino, in a more lucrative location along Interstate 10, is in the works.
