Navajo Nation President Joe Shirley Jr. vetoed legislation that would have created another gaming enterprise on the reservation.

The Navajo Nation Council previously created the Tribal Gaming Enterprise to oversee casino development. But some delegates said Shirley wasn't moving fast enough, so they passed a bill to create another entity at the Tse' Daa' Kaan Chapter in New Mexico.

Shirley vetoed the measure, saying it conflicts with the main tribal enterprise and could conflict with tribal-state gaming compacts. The tribe has agreements in New Mexico and Arizona.

Despite the move, delegates will consider bills to develop gaming enterprises at two more Navajo chapters.
