Former off-reservation casino backer indicted

Dennis Troha, a former developer for the Menominee Nation's off-reservation casino in Wisconsin, was indicted for allegedly making illegal campaign contributions to Gov. Jim Doyle (D).

According to federal prosecutors, Troha allegedly funneled $100,000 in illegal contributions to Doyle, who has to decide whether to approve or deny the casino. Doyle is not accused of any wrongdoing.

Troha dropped out of the project last week. The Mohegan Tribe of Connecticut, whose leaders were partners in the project, bought out his share.

The Menominee Nation hopes to build an $808 million casino at a former racetrack in Kenosha. The application is pending before the Bureau of Indian Affairs in Washington, D.C.
