Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe meets with town

The Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe of Massachusetts met with officials in the town of Middleboro to discuss gaming.

No decisions were made at the meeting on Monday but the tribe and the town plan to meet again. Town officials are eager to host a casino if they can find land for the project. One town leader said the tribe is looking for at least 200 acres.

The tribe won federal recognition last month. Tribal leaders are looking at sites to develop a gaming facility.

Some forms of Class II are legal in the state. State lawmakers are considering proposals to legalize Class III gaming.
