Maine Senate passes Passamaquoddy slot bill

The Maine Senate voted 22-12 on Wednesday to pass a bill that allows the Passamaquoddy Tribe to install slot machines at a proposed racetrack

The House already approved the bill but Gov. John Baldacci (D) has said he will veto it. There aren't enough votes in either chamber to override a veto.

In that case, the bill will head to voters as a referendum on the November ballot. Three years ago, Maine voters legalized slot machines at racetracks but denied gaming to the Passamaquoddy Tribe and the Penobscot Nation.
