Mohegan Tribe wins big on half-cent slot machines

The Mohegan Tribe of Connecticut says the half-cent slot machines at the Mohegan Sun Casino are doing better than expected.

The casino brought in 38 machines in February. They've brought in $2.9 million in revenues, outperforming the dime slot machines.

"No one has a crystal ball to know whether or not something is going to work," Frank Neborsky, vice president of slot operations at the casino, told The Norwich Bulletin. "They've performed better than what we expected."

The machines don't pay out as much as the other slot machines at the casino. But players have warmed to them, noting they extend the play time.

"If I sit down at a half-cent machine with a $10 bill, I get 2,000 credits to play with," one gambler told the paper. "I get more seat time, more playing experience with the budget I'm comfortable with."
