Eastern Band increases per capita payments

The Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians made $122 million in per capita payments last year, thanks to an increase in profits at the Harrah’s Cherokee Casino and Hotel.

The casino is managed by Harrah’s, which made $280 million in profits in 2006. The gaming company reported an increase in $18 million to the per capita payments made to tribal members.

The casino employs more than 1,800 people and has a payroll of $68 million.
