Connecticut tribes expand gaming beyond state

The Mohegan Tribe and the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation are looking to replicate their success in Connecticut elsewhere.

The Mohegans recently opened a racetrack with slot machines in Pennsylvania. The facility has been a hit and the tribe is already expanding it to triple the size.

The Pequots are also staking a claim in Pennsylvania. The tribe has won a license to open a slot facility in south Philadelphia.

Both tribes have other projects in Indian Country. The Mohegans are financing an off-reservation casino in Wisconsin and a new casino in Washington while the Pequots are helping a California tribe expand an existing casino.

The Mashantuckets are helping the Iowa Tribe seek a gaming license in Kansas, which will be operated under state, not federal, law. The tribe s also considering some gaming development in the Caribbean.
