Residents await decision on Prairie Band land

The Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation of Kansas wants to open a Class II facility on ancestral land in Illinois but it could be years before a decision is made.

The tribe owns 128 acres in Shabbona. The town is named after a Potawatomi leader who was granted a 1,280-acre reservation in DeKalb County.

The tribe says the reservation still exists and can be used for gaming. The Interior Department hasn't made a ruling either way.
