Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe presents casino plan

The Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe doesn't want to turn Massachusetts into Las Vegas, Chairman Glenn Marshall said.

Marshall addressed residents in the town of Middleboro last night. He said the tribe would like to build a Class III facility with 4,000 slot machines, 125 table games and a hotel.

But he said he didn't want a "commercial" casino like the ones in Las Vegas. "That's not the commonwealth of Massachusetts, it's not the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe, and it's certainly not the town of Middleboro," he said, The Cape Cod Times reported.

The tribe has purchased land in Middleboro for potential development but no final decisions have been made.
