Unions seek ground at Mashantucket casino

Several labor unions are trying to organize at Foxwoods Resort Casino, owned by the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation of Connecticut.

The casino employs more than 10,000 people and is the largest in the world. Efforts to organize unions failed in the past but a recent court ruling could give labor an opening.

The D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals said tribes fall under federal labor law if their businesses impact non-Indians or employ non-Indians. That would appear to be the case for Foxwoods.

Casino President John A. O'Brien is urging workers not to buy into the union efforts [Foxwoods Letter].
