Cowlitz Tribe ends discussions with city over casino

The Cowlitz Tribe of Washington will no longer try to deal with the city of La Center, an attorney said.

The tribe has been trying to work with the city to address the impacts of the proposed casino. But with the rejection of a $17.8 million sewer line and sewage plant deal by city council members, the tribe decided to end discussions.

Attorney Steve Horenstein told The Columbian "there is nothing left for the tribe to offer."

The tribe was recognized through the Bureau of Indian Affairs process and is trying to acquire an initial reservation and build a casino.
