Developer doubts Timbisha Shoshone casino

The Timbisha Shoshone Tribe's plan to open a casino in Hesperia, California, appears to be drifting away.

Back in 2004, the tribe started the process to acquire land the casino, more than 200 miles from its headquarters in Bishop. But the site has just been purchased by a Las Vegas developer who doesn't see gaming in his future.

Instead, Carl Ross wants to build a shopping center. The old owner of the site was a casino developer who put it up for sale last winter.

The tribe has a reservation in Death Valley but federal law prohibits gaming there.
