Quapaw Tribe breaks ground on $200M casino

The Quapaw Tribe of Oklahoma held a ceremonial groundbreaking on Tuesday for its $200 million casino and hotel.

Set to open on July 4, 2008, the Downstream Casino Resort will be located on 80 acres where Oklahoma, Missouri and Kansas meet. Plans call for a 70,000 square-foot casino, a 226-room hotel and an 8,800 square-foot convention and meeting space.

The gaming and hotel portion will be built on the Oklahoma side. The parking lot is located in Kansas, with part of the traffic entrance in Missouri.

The tribe plans to continue investing in the area and announced a partnership with the Loma Linda Country Club. Other retail and hotel projects are in the works.
