Seminole Tribe's compact faces more scrutiny

The Seminole Tribe hasn't finished negotiating a Class III compact with Gov. Charlie Crist (R) but already there are questions about the deal.

The tribe has the right to offer slot machines. But a proposal to authorize other Class III game is drawing opposition from some state lawmakers.

Crist says he will submit the compact to the state Legislature for approval. Key lawmakers are divided on whether the deal would survive a vote.

The tribe and the state have until September 11 to report progress on their negotiations. The Bureau of Indian Affairs could step in an issue Class III rules but a federal appeals court decision has thrown the legality of that process into doubt.
