Pauma Band holds another meeting on casino plans

The Pauma Band of Mission Indians held a second public meeting about its casino plans on Wednesday.

The tribe operates a temporary casino on its reservation. Plans call for a new $300 million facility with up to 2,500 slot machines, 50 table games and 10 poker tables, plus a hotel.

Residents are concerned about traffic to and from the casino. They are seeking improvements to the highway that leads to the reservation.

The tribe is willing to pay for road improvements and must negotiate a deal with the county to address impacts of the casino.
