Mississippi Choctaws to discuss off-reservation casino

The Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians will discuss its plans for an off-reservation casino in Jackson County on September 27.

The tribe asked the county supervisors to schedule an open forum on the project. The public, however, will not be allowed to ask questions directly.

The tribe wants to build a casino in the county, more than 200 miles from the reservation. The tribe has already started the land-into-trust process.

The county is holding a non-binding referendum on the proposal in November. Miko Beasley Denson has said the tribe will move forward regardless of the outcome.
