Gila River Tribe breaks ground on new casino

The Gila River Indian Community of Arizona broke ground on a $200 million casino on Monday.

Construction on the Wild Horse Pass Casino & Hotel begins next month. The tribe expects to open the facility in May 2009.

The tribe will close the existing Wild Horse Pass Casino for the new facility. The tribal-state compact requires casinos to be at least 1.5 miles apart.

The tribe broke ground on another casino, the Lone Butte Casino, last week.
