Flint mayor seeks off-reservation casino

The mayor of Flint, Michigan, is hoping to get in the game for an off-reservation casino.

The House is considering legislation to authorize two off-reservation casinos in Michigan. But opposition from certain members of Congress could derail plans for casinos in Port Huron and Romulus.

So Flint Mayor Don Williamson says his city presents a better choice. He's lobbying Congress for a shot at a casino.

"I think we have a 50-50 chance of getting it," Williamson told The Flint Journal.

The House Natural Resources Committee voted last week to approve H.R. 2176 and H.R. 4115. The bills settle land claims for the Bay Mills Indian Community and the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians.
