Decline in Grand Traverse Band casino payments
Wednesday, February 27, 2008

grand traverse
michigan
For the third year in a row, casino revenue sharing payments from the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians in Michigan have declined.

Twice a year, the tribe shares 2 percent of slot machine revenues with local governments. The payments are at their lowest level in more than a decade, The Leelanau Enterprise reported.

“The economy of the state is contracting and the entire country is facing a recession,” the tribe’s general counsel, John Petoskey, told the paper. “Business is down everywhere and it’s disappointing for everyone.”

The most recent payment was $927,378, the lowest since 1997.
