NIGA kicks off annual convention in San Diego

The National Indian Gaming Association is welcoming an estimated 6,000 people to its trade show and convention this week in San Diego, California.

As part of the conference, tribal leaders, federal officials and gaming industry representatives will mark the 20th anniversary of the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act. Since the law was passed in 1988, tribal casinos have grown into a $26.5 billion industry.

Tribes are seeing a slow down in their revenues, however. But NIGA is optimistic that growth will continue in Indian Country.

NIGA represents over 180 tribes.
