Oklahoma State Treasurer Scott Meacham said he opposes plans by the Shawnee Tribe. to open a casino in Oklahoma City.

In a letter to the Interior Department, Meacham said the casino would hurt revenues at the Remington Park racetrack. The tribe's gaming site is less than 2 miles away.

The tribe wants 104 acres placed in trust for the project. The Bureau of Indian Affairs has been taking public comments from state and local officials.

The tribe was recognized by an act of Congress in 2000.
