A federal magistrate said he will issue a ruling as early as next week in a Class III gaming compact dispute between the Rincon Band of Mission Indians and the state of California.
On April 29, Judge William McCurine Jr. ruled the state was negotiating in bad faith. He ordered the two sides to return to the table within 60 days.
He stayed the order on a temporary basis because the state decided to appeal. But with the 60-day deadline expiring soon, he said he will make a ruling on whether to lift the stay or make it permanent.
The tribe wants to go back to the table in order to add 900 slot machines to the Harrah's Rincon Casino The state wants to wait until the 9th Circuit Court of
Appeals resolves the case.
