Mashantucket Tribe eyes Philadelphia casino

The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation of Connecticut is eyeing a new location for its proposed casino in Pennsylvania.

The tribe envisions a slot machine facility in the heart of Philadelphia's downtown. The site being examined currently houses a shopping mall.

The tribe and its partners originally proposed a casino in south Philadelphia, further from downtown. The project has seen neighborhood opposition.

Pennsylvania legalized slot machines in 2004. The Mohegan Tribe, also of Connecticut, operates a race track with slot machines in the northeastern part of the state.
