Mississippi Choctaws won't give up casino bid

The Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians won't drop its efforts for an off-reservation casino, Miko Beasley Denson said.

The tribe was one of 11 whose off-reservation casinos were rejected by the Bureau of Indian Affairs in January. Denson said the BIA made a "mistake."

"The BIA is (supposed) to protect tribes. I didn't think they were observant of that ideology, especially when we see decreasing federal funds," Denson told The Jackson Clarion-Ledger.

The BIA said the casino site was too far from the tribe's existing reservation. A hearing today before the House Natural Resources Committee will address the issue.
