Letter: Keep gaming money in Massachusetts

"On March 24, the headline in The Standard-Times read, "Bay Staters betting big-time: Residents spent more than $1 billion at Conn., R.I. establishments." Yet we continue to allow this money to leave our state. I ask why?

The Wampanoag Mashpee Tribe has requested the federal government to approve the land they purchased in Middleboro as sovereign land, and the Wampanoag Aquinnah Tribe from Martha's Vineyard already has sovereign land located there.

Do our politicians realize that these tribes can build casinos on their land and, guess what? The state will get none of the proceeds derived from such casinos."
