Lawsuit challenging Quapaw casino 'in limbo'

A lawsuit challenging the Quapaw Tribe's $300 million casino appears to be "in limbo," an attorney involved in the case told The Joplin Globe.

Commissioners in Cherokee County, Kansas, sued the Interior Department to block the Downstream Casino Resort. The county says the land for the project was taken into trust without environmental reviews.

The case was filed in federal court in Washington, D.C., in February. County attorney David Cooper said nothing has happened since then.

The casino is set to open July 5. A commercial casino being proposed in the area is scaling back its plans in response to the competition.
