Mashpee Wampanoag negotiations expected

The Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe of Massachusetts says it won't start negotiations for a Class III gaming compact until the appropriate time but observers say that time is coming very soon.

Gov. Deval Patrick (D) has already said he is ready to negotiate. He is also expected to renew his push to legalize commercial casinos in the state even through lawmakers rejected an earlier bill.

Meanwhile, the tribe is seeking to have land placed in trust in two towns. The land in the town of Middleboro would be used for a casino.
