Wyandotte Nation seeks second casino in Kansas

The Wyandotte Nation of Oklahoma is seeking to open a second casino in Kansas.

In 2006, the tribe filed a land-into-trust application to use a site in Park City, outside of Wichita, for gaming purposes. The Bureau of Indian Affairs hasn't made a decision on the request.

The tribe already operates the 7th Street Casino in downtown Kansas City. The land was taken into trust pursuant to a land claim settlement, which made it eligible for gaming, according to the federal courts.

The Kansas City Star does not say whether the tribe is claiming a similar exemption for the Park City site. The state told the BIA it opposes the land-into-trust application.
