Auburn Rancheria starts work on casino expansion

The United Auburn Indian Community of California broke ground on a casino expansion that analysts say could cost up to $1 billion.

The tribe opened the Thunder Valley Casino in 2003. The facility has been highly successful and will get much bigger with the expansion.

The project will add more gaming space, a 24-story hotel, two ballrooms totaling 30,000 square-feet, a performing arts center, three new restaurants, and 5,000-car parking structure.

The tribe expects work to be complete in the summer of 2010.
