Eastern Shawnee Tribe awaits word on Ohio casino

The Eastern Shawnee Tribe of Oklahoma hopes to build a casino on Ohio if its land-into-trust applications are approved.

The tribe filed applications for two parcels totaling 180 acres. An Indian law professor said approval will be tough since the land is far from tribal headquarters.

The move comes amid a debate over an amendment on the November ballot that will legalize a casino in Clinton County. A group called Ohio Roundtable, which opposes the amendment, says approval could allow a tribe to open a casino in the county.
