Tigua Tribe hopeful for reopening of casino

The Tigua Tribe of Texas hopes 2009 will see the reopening of its once-successful casino.

The Speaking Rock Casino was a Class III operation that created thousands of jobs and pumped millions of dollars into the regional economy. But the money dried up after the state of Texas went to court and got the facility shut down.

El Paso-area lawmakers are firmly behind the tribe and they said they will make legalization of the casino their top priority. The tribe hopes a pro-gaming leader in the House will be sympathetic to the cause.
