Mohegan Tribe to reduce all gaming salaries

The Mohegan Tribe of Connecticut will be cutting the salaries of all 9,800 of its gaming employees.

Senior management at Mohegan Sun will be reduced the most, by 10 percent. Middle managers will see a 7.5 percent cut and nonmanagement salaried and hourly employees will see a 4 percent cut.

The tribe also plans to suspend all annual and merit-based raises, along with company matches to 401K retirement plans. The goal is to prevent layoffs at the casino, which has seen a decline in revenues over the past year.

“Our goal was to keep people working,” said Mitchell Etess, the casino's president and chief executive officer, The Norwich Bulletin reported. “That was really our whole focus here. We kind of went against the curve here to keep jobs and the medical benefits.”
