Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe asks Congress for fix

The Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe of Massachusetts has reportedly asked the state's Congressional delegation to fix the U.S. Supreme Court decision in Carcieri v. Salazar.

The tribe submitted a land-into-trust application for a casino in the town of Middleboro. But since its federal recognition wasn't finalized until May 2007, it's not clear if the tribe was "under federal jurisdiction" in 1934 as required by the Supreme Court.

The tribe, however, is moving ahead with the land-into-trust process, a local official said. An environmental impact statement for the casino could be released soon, the official said.
