Agua Caliente Band looks for 'missing' gaming money

The Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians is trying to find out where $14 million in tribal gaming money went in California.

Tribes contribute a portion of their revenues to the Indian Gaming Special Distribution Fund. The money, about $30 million a year, is shared with local communities that are affected by casinos.

But Agua Caliente Chairman Richard Milanovich said the state missed a year of payments. That means communities near his tribe's casino lost out on their share of the funds.

“One way or the other, we want to be sure that the cities and counties get the money back,” Milanovich told The Palm Springs Desert Sun.

The tribe negotiated a new compact to pay money directly to affected communities.
