Graton Rancheria partner declares bankruptcy

Opponents of the Graton Rancheria casino in California say the bankruptcy filing of Station Casinos Inc. will hurt the project.

"I'm deeply satisfied that this bankruptcy will slow it down," Chip Worthington, the founder of Stop the Casino 101, told The Santa Rosa Press-Democrat. "It's a significant victory for the opponents of the casino, but we are not letting our guard down. We are not stopping our opposition."

Station is taking a different view. "There will be no impact to our tribal gaming partnerships," Lori Nelson, the director of corporate communications, told the paper. "We move forward with the business plan."

The tribe is in the final stage of approval for the casino. But the Obama administration is delaying acquisition of the gaming site while Stop the Casinos 101 appeals a lawsuit that was dismissed by a federal judge.
