Arizona tribes report decline in gaming revenues

Revenues at tribal casinos fell for a second time this year, the Arizona Department of Gaming reported.

Tribes contributed slightly more than $23.5 million in the second quarter of the year. That's 9.4 percent less than the amount they shared in 2008.

Sheila Morago, the executive director of the Arizona Indian Gaming Association, said the 9.4 percent drop was the same seen in the first quarter of the year. "I'm just happy we're staying steady right now,'' she told Capitol Media Services.

Non-Indian racetracks are using the decline in tribal revenues, combined with the recession, to lobby for slot machines at their facilities.
