Crow Tribe eagerly welcomes smokers to casinos

The Crow Tribe of Montana is marketing its casinos to people who want a place to smoke and maybe even gamble a bit.

The Montana Clean Indoor Air Act went into effect on October 1. The law bans smoking in public places but Indian Country is not subject to state jurisdiction.

"This is a free country," Timothy Rondeau, a patron at the Crow Tribe's Little Bighorn Casino, told The Billings Gazette. "We can do as we please here on the reservation without the government telling us what we can and can't do."

The tribe is running television advertisements that tout a non-smoke free environment. Business has apparently picked up as a result.

"We get calls from people from out of town," marketing director Kathy Birdinground told the paper. "They say, 'Well, maybe we'll stop down there.'"
