Financing for New York City casino falls through

Plans for a casino at a racetrack in New York City have fallen through due to lack of financing.

Delaware Northof Buffalo won the license to operate the slot machine facility at the Aqueduct Racetrack. But the firm was unable to secure $370 million for the project amid the economic recession.

The Mohegan Tribe of Connecticut and the Seminole Tribe of Florida were among three finalists for the casino but the state passed them over. The Shinnecock Nation of New York, a state-recognized tribe, also expressed interest in the site.
