Mississippi Choctaws laid off 70 casino employees

The Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians laid off 77 casino employees in its latest round of job cuts.

The jobs were eliminated with the shortening of hours at the Golden Moon Casino. The facility is only open on weekends.

The tribe started off the year by cutting 570 employees at Golden Moon but says its cost-cutting measures are working. "While we take no pleasure in laying off workers, the main objective of the resort is to fund tribal government," spokesperson Warren Strain told The Neshoba Democrat. "Our expenses are down and the revenue is holding and we feel good about that."
