Mechoopda Tribe disputes criticism of casino

The Mechoopda Tribe of California said officials in Butte County, California, are wrong about a proposed casino.

The tribe is seeking to acquire 645 acres in trust. But only 100 acres will be developed, and of that, the casino will only take up about 45,000 square-feet.

"It's very small," Vice Chair Sandra Knight told The Oroville Mercury Register of the project.

County supervisors voted 4-1 to appeal a federal judge's decision that said the tribe could engage in gaming on the land.
