City won't discuss Tohono O'odham casino plans

The Tohono O'odham Nation wants to negotiate its off-reservation casino plans with the city of Glendale, Arizona, but officials there aren't willing to talk.

The tribe announced the $600 million casino resort in January and Chairman Ned Norris Jr is willing to discuss environmental, traffic, economic, safety and other concerns. The city, however, is opposing the tribe's land-into-trust application.

The tribe has negotiated with other local governments for casino services. "They're treated simply as a customer," Pima County Administrator Chuck Huckelberry told The Arizona Republic.

The Bureau of Indian Affairs in Washington, D.C., will make a final decision on the tribe's application.
