Town expects $7M a year from Mashpee casino

Officials in Middleboro, Massachusetts, are discussing how to spend the $7 million it will receive every year if the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe builds a casino in the town.

The tribe is still going through the land-into-trust process for the casino. There have been a couple of snags -- most significantly, the U.S. Supreme Court decision in Carcieri v. Salazar -- but the tribe says it is committed to the town.

As part of an agreement, the tribe has been making $250,000 payments to the town for planning purposes and infrastructure improvements. The tribe has paid $1 million so far.
