Tohono O'odham Nation sues to protect casino

The Tohono O'odham Nation sued the city of Glendale, Arizona, to protect its plans for an off-reservation casino.

The tribe plans to use 146 acres within the borders of Glendale. The tribe says the property is unincorporated.

But the city claims it annexed 46 acres of the tribe's property. If true, that means that portion can't be taken into trust under an act of Congress that settled a tribal land claim.

The tribe filed suit in Maricopa County court to resolve the issue. "The nation is determined to not let Glendale's groundless tactics prevent us from moving forward," Chairman Ned Norris Jr. told The Arizona Republic.
