Warm Springs Tribes hope for off-reservation

The Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs Reservation hope the Obama administration will approve an off-reservation casino in Oregon.

The $389 Cascade Locks Resort and Casino would be located on 25 acres in the Port of Cascade Locks. The gaming site is about 69 miles from the northwestern border of the reservation.

Cascade Locks used to be part of the reservation. The land was ceded by an 1855 treaty.

The Bureau of Indian Affairs will release a final environmental impact statement on the project in the coming month, according to Louis Pitt, the tribe's director of government affairs and planning.
